Trailer Tuesdays: How to Train Your Dragon 2

The How to Train Your Dragon sequel is almost here and I am super excited for this movie.

(Some spoilers for the plot in the trailer, and obviously below the jump)

A disabled main character that is hopefully not limited or defined by his disability—and he has an equally disabled dragon with whom he shares awesome adventures. Yeah, this franchise was awesome before, but now it’s even better. It will be really interesting to see how the writers handle this new aspect of Hiccup’s character, considering that in almost the entirety of the last movie Hiccup was not disabled. Hopefully this magical universe won’t have some magical cure for Hiccup and Toothless. It’s an overused and offensive trope and one this movie certainly doesn’t need to implement. On top of this, female characters will feature more prominently in this movie then in the last one, whichhow-to-train-your-dragon-2-older-hiccup was a pretty big sausagefest. Astrid was one of the few girl Vikings in the last movie, but she seems to have become more of a supporting character as opposed to just a side character like she was before. I have the feeling that some sort of romance will happen between Astrid and Hiccup, which is fine and all, but I get so much romance from Disney movies that I almost don’t want to see it from Dreamworks. At least both Astrid and Hiccup are more grown up in this movie and have known each other long enough for a relationship to develop, which is good. Hiccup’s mother, Valka, is also being introduced this movie. She has been living with wild dragons and is even more knowledgeable about them than Hiccup. I am a little worried about her being described as basically a crazy cat lady but with dragons, but hopefully her portrayal will be well done.

No main villain has been revealed as of yet, so I’m curious as to what the main plot will be, but I have high expectations for this movie, especially since the last one was so good. Here’s hoping it will be as entertaining as before.
