It’s that time again, folks—Sleepy Hollow time. Last season finished with a bang, and early speculation about Season 2 of Sleepy Hollow got us some tidbits of new information, but now we have some trailers and scenes from the new season. Let the speculation begin!
From the trailer, Sleepy Hollow is back in all its over-the-top glory. It actually looks like Abbie gets herself out of Purgatory, perhaps with some help from her younger self (and Jenny’s). We also get to see Jenny being a badass, both in the gun-toting fashion and the strategizing and support fashion. In fact, the only character we don’t get to see doing something is Katrina, who, when we left Season 1, was the prisoner of our friendzoned dudebro from the 1700s, the Headless Horseman. In the first season, Katrina couldn’t do much of anything aside from shout vague warnings from Purgatory, and now that she’s out of Purgatory, it should be a prime opportunity for us to see what she can do—but sadly, nothing in Season 1 made me think she was capable of doing something. From her inconsistent backstory to her inconsistent powers, she’s an enigma, and not a good one. I hope she doesn’t spend a lot of time as a damsel in distress and can instead join Abbie, Jenny, and Ichabod in the “solving crimes about 1700s zombies division” soon.
Sleepy Hollow’s always been sort of “I do what I want” about plot and plot holes, and it looks like they’re going to be even crazier this season. So what I hope for, at least, is strong character relationships. I hope the Ichabod and Katrina marriage starts making sense (if they’re so in love that Katrina would stay 200 years in Purgatory and Ichabod would almost die trying to rescue her, then why isn’t it believable?) and I hope Irving comes out of his trial okay (and that Macey gets more than a couple cameos).
I of course want Ichabod and Abbie to continue to be their wisecracking snarky selves, and I really hope we’ll get more on Abbie’s and Jenny’s past relationship and family history—there’s so much there that we don’t know, and it’s probably important, given that the sisters saw Moloch raising Jeremy in the woods. We now know that the producers have cast Aunjanue Ellis as Abbie and Jenny’s mother, so it looks like this wish, at least, may happen! And it’s fantastic that the producers are choosing to bring in the Mills’ mother instead of father, ensuring that Sleepy Hollow won’t be short on interesting, layered female characters of color for a long time.
Finally, we’ve gotten sneak peeks at two scenes from the new season, which show that 1) the snark will be very present in this upcoming season and 2) no matter what happens, Ichabod will still be fairly clueless about the modern world. And, in an aside for Andy Brooks fans, John Cho will be back as Andy Brooks, someway, somehow.
Sleepy Hollow will premiere on September 22nd, and that can’t come soon enough! What are you most looking forward to? Let me know in the comments!
