Trailer Tuesdays: Jurassic World Evolution

A while back I posted a review for Zoo Tycoon, and sadly, I still haven’t found a version to work on my computer since then. Not being able to build my own dinosaur zoo where the animals eat the guests—or any zoo at all—has dug a nearly unfillable hole in my life. And even though watching the Jurassic Park movies could fill it, the only movie in the franchise that’s not complete shit is the first one, and after watching it a dozen or so times, I need a little more variety in my dinosaur experience. Enter Jurassic World Evolution, a game I’m shoving all my hopes and dreams onto, so it better not suck.

As of current, there doesn’t seem to be that much information about Evolution out there. The first trailer just dropped recently: it’s a zoo-building and management game where the player has to run their own Jurassic World (and maybe kill the guests). I’ve really wanted a game like this for a while, and the Jurassic Park series has a lot to offer it. I want my T-rexes, I want my Velociraptors (even though they’re actually called Deinonychus, but that name’s not scary), and I can’t believe I’m saying this, I want to build hybrid dinosaurs. The Indominus Rex from Jurassic World wasn’t the best decision, but for a game, building new dinosaur species alongside actual dinosaur species will help it stand out and add another layer of challenges. So I can only hope this will be an included option.

One of the things that I also like about building and management games is that they tend to be neutral when it comes to issues of representation. Jurassic World was a sexist and racist mess—but when you compare that to games like the Tycoon series, you’re not going to get scenes of women running in heels or all disposable NPCs being racial minorities. Usually, the point of these games isn’t even to kill the guests (I’m assuming the same is true here), but to be a successful business person who can properly budget money, and as you’re the person in charge, you can be whoever you want to be. I don’t particularly want to see the characters from the movie in this, not unless all the minority characters are there as well, and if this game is partly based in survival (the game punishes you for killing NPCs, instead of allowing it to be a fun outcome), I would want a way to save all those characters. I swear to God, if there’s a trophy or some shit for allowing the one Hispanic maintenance man from the movie to die, I will be both completely not surprised but also very angry.

All my hopes and dreams, Evolution. You better not let me down. I’ll cry. (via YouTube)

The game will come out in 2018, alongside Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which is set to reach theaters in June. I’ll be heading to the theater as well at that time, but if I’m being honest, I’m more excited for the game. Evolution will come to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and I look forward to playing it then.

About MadameAce

I draw, I write, I paint, and I read. I used to be really into anime and manga until college, where I fell out of a lot of my fandoms to pursue my studies. College was also the time I discovered my asexuality, and I have been fascinated by different sexualities ever since. I grew up in various parts of the world, and I've met my fair share of experiences and cultures along the way. Sure, I'm a bit socially awkward and not the easiest person to get along with, but I do hold great passion for my interests, and I can only hope that the things I have to talk about interest you as well.

  1. It’s being made by the same guys who made Planet Coaster, RCT3 and Elite: Dangerous. I have relatively high hopes for this one 🙂
