The Trinity of YouTube is Making a Movie!

Are you subscribed to Grace Helbig, Mamrie Hart, and Hannah Hart on YouTube? You really should be, because these three ladies are taking over the world of online entertainment, one video at a time. By the way, I’ve already covered two thirds of this Trinity in Web Crush posts, so don’t try to pretend you don’t know who I’m talking about. Their latest venture is a full-blown movie called Camp Takota!

Camp Takota- Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart, and Mamrie HartLook, it even has an IMDb page and everything.

The ladies announced the movie at this year’s Vidcon, and the internet has been buzzing with excitement ever since. If you don’t believe me, check out the Camp Takota tag on tumblr to see how many people are promoting the movie and following production updates. This has a lot of people excited and I think I know why.

Beyond the fact that these three comedians are extremely popular on YouTube, I think people are excited to see more women headlining a comedy. As a genre, comedy hasn’t been particularly welcoming to female performers but that view is slowly changing. In mainstream media, movies like The Heat are exciting for this reason. Probably the first female “Buddy Cop Movie”, it did extremely well at the box office and showed that audiences can embrace women leading more than just “chick flicks”. Female comedians are found on Comedy Central almost as often as males, and in the world of online entertainment, YouTube has become a great place for funny women to grow an audience. I would be remiss here if I didn’t mention the most successful of these YouTube comedians, Jenna Marbles, who is one of the most subscribed YouTubers of any genre. Yes, she has put out problematic content from a feminist standpoint (especially that slut-shaming rant), but for better or worse I can’t just pretend she doesn’t exist in/currently dominate this field.

It’s heartening to see women making a name for themselves in the world of comedy and taking on bigger projects in the field. It means that the public’s perception of women is changing, however slowly, because success in comedy is so dependent upon an audience embracing the performer. If audiences are embracing women in comedy, it hopefully means they’re willing to embrace women in other typically male roles, like action hero or multi-dimensional protagonist. Or President, whoops, who said that?

While Camp Takota still has quite a way to go before it can be enjoyed by the masses (filming just began last week), we can still follow updates on the movie’s official site or by subscribing to Grace’s channel (Seriously, why haven’t you done that yet? How many times do I have to tell you that she’s awesome?) because she’s posting daily vlogs as the cast goes into production. Unfortunately she’s been very good at keeping the plot under wraps, though, so there’s still not much known about the movie’s actual story. That won’t keep other fans and me from following every update, though, and I hope you’ll join us!

Web Crush Wednesdays: Geeking Out with Kerri Doherty

Geeking Out is a kinda new talk show hosted by Kerri Doherty. In The show, Kerri interviews famous people but can’t seem to conceal her awkward social graces and fangirl tendencies in order to be professional for more than a few seconds.

The show airs on Thursdays on OfficialComedy on YouTube. The channel has other shows Monday-Wednesday, so maybe someday they’ll be future web crushes!

I found out about the show just this week because in the latest episode Kerri sat down with my favorite internet star, Grace Helbig AKA Daily Grace:

Everything good on the internet comes either from or in association with Grace Helbig.

The interviews are really fun to watch because Kerri makes it different from a regular interview by making it awkward and occasionally creepy with her fangirling. That may be a weird reason to enjoy something but it really is amusing seeing her play with her guests and watching them react in different ways.

Kerri has other videos on her channel geekingoutshow such as con trips and tips on stalking celebrities:

Like I said, I only started watching this week so this is literally a crush right now. I don’t know a lot about Kerri but I’m enjoying her greatly! Maybe someday this will become a full-on web love like I have for some of the other people I’ve featured in previous Web Crushes of mine, but for now I’m just enjoying my little crush. Kerri is very funny and makes cute videos that are super enjoyable. Check her out!

Web Crush Wednesdays: Grace Helbig

Who’s my Web Crush this week? It’s Grace Helbig! (WARNING! THIS IS A VERY VIDEO-HEAVY POST) If you don’t know Grace, she’s an internet celebrity who comes to YouTube via She has a daily vlog known as Daily Grace (how clever!) which was how I discovered her.

I don’t believe this was the first video of hers I saw, but it’s the one that made me want to watch more!

Grace is a comedian and she is definitely the kind who believes that anything is fair game for comedy. If you’re really sensitive about manners/etiquette/foul language or any political, spiritual, or religious ideology Grace will not be the person for you. I find her daily vlog to be endlessly hilarious with her irreverent humor and creative little skits. Every day has a theme except Monday which is kept open for any kind of video. Tuesdays are “Commenting on Comments.”

I want to be hazed so badly!! I love the on-the-spot nicknaming. Aside from that I enjoy seeing the kind of things people say on the internet which is always surprising and funny, and I love that she interacts with her fans. She could ignore comments, or get overly defensive at rude ones, but instead she uses her sense of humor to engage with her “viewsers”.

Wednesdays are Reviews!

I love this show and her review is so accurate.

Thursdays are Tutorials!

I love when she teaches us something like this, though I must say I prefer her cooking tutorials because first off, I love the food network! Cooking shows are super entertaining to me, plus I love her invented recipes, “facts”, and how her cooking style of “I have this idea and I’m not sure how to make it happen but damn it, I’mma try!”

And Fridays are seeeeexxxxxxxyyyy

But daily vlogging just isn’t enough for Grace or her fans! She’s also part of the web series “My Music Show” which airs every Sunday and has special weekly features:

It’s a pretty funny show. Sometimes I think the characters are too cliché (I know that’s the idea behind it, but even so) but it’s still funny. Also, Felicia Day has guest starred on an episode, though I won’t tell you which one. You’ll just have to find out!

She hosts MyDamnChannelLIVE on Thursdays:

And her guest star in this episode is Michelle Vargas, with whom she runs the channel Grace ‘n’ Michelle:

And she does spots for “Attack of the Show” on G4

Grace is a busy, busy lady and I love her. It’s a damn good thing I didn’t come across her before I graduated or I never would have gotten any work done! If you have come to love her then you’re in luck because she’s EVERYWHERE on the net. YouTubefacebook, tumblr, and twitter.

In closing, because there just aren’t enough videos in this post, here’s one of my absolute favorites:
