Fanfiction Fridays: Hogwarts School of Prayer and Miracles ) by proudhousewife

MadameAce: So for those of you who haven’t yet seen it in all its glory, there is now a Christian-safe version of Harry Potter that you can enjoy. Our author, proudhousewife, wanted her children to be able to read Harry Potter, without the fear that the story would turn them into Satanic witches. And let’s face it: this is a pretty legitimate fear. After I read the first couple books, I immediately bought myself a wand and ran around screaming “Avada Kedavra” at people. Clearly, the devil has taken hold of my soul.

My face when I first realized that.

My face when I first realized that.

If only there had been a Christian-friendly version of the books I could have read back then. One that preferably condescends to small children, teaches girls that being both beautiful and in the kitchen is what glorifies God, insinuates that non-Christians and Catholics are incapable of love and achieving salvation, and tells us that evolutionists are stupid.

Hagrid laughed wisely. “Evolution is a fairytale. You don’t really believe that, do you?”

“Yes, I do!” Aunt Petunia screeched.

“Well then prove it!”

Aunt Petunia could only stare at him; and her big mouth hung open dumbly. Here she thought she was so educated; and she always demanded that Christians prove what they believed in; but she couldn’t even prove her own religion. It was then that Harry knew who the smart one here was!

Oh, thank goodness. All these years, I believed in evolution. I now know how wrong I was!

I have no idea whether Hogwarts School of Prayer and Miracles )—yes, there is actually a half parentheses in its title for some reason—is a parody or genuine. I’m also not sure that I care. I have finally seen the light.

In Brightest Day: Draco Malfoy

I’ve been avoiding this character profile for a while. You see, Draco Malfoy is one of those characters that splits the readership of Harry Potter so much that it becomes almost comical.

draco headshotOn one hand, there are fans of the books and series that hate Malfoy for the hell he put the trio through, both the petty and the borderline evil. Others feel sympathy for the poor Malfoy child. I’m a bit in between. You see, for the majority of the Harry Potter series, Draco Malfoy is a simple bully. And boy, is he a stereotypical bully.

Sexualized Saturdays: I’m not gay, I just love you!

I’m not gay, I’m just in love with you, [other same-sex character]!

This line has cropped up in probably thousands of slash fanfic over the years (it’s even a trope over at TVTropes), and I’ve grown to hate it. Is it a problematic way of looking at sexuality? Yes and no, I’ve come to realize. It depends entirely on the context.

Fanfiction Fridays: Why I’m Glad Ginny Is Dating Draco Malfoy by Sarea Okelani

During my Harry Potter days I read pretty much every Harry Potter fanfic and consequently read almost every pairing. Among all those fics and all those pairings I had some favorites one of those was Draco/Ginny.

It really is one of the most perfect pairings feisty Ginny, snarky Draco, and a slew of proud angry relatives on both sides. It made for some excellent reads.

One of my favorite things was watching Ron try to deal with Draco and Ginny’s relationship. Ron already hated Draco and was fiercely protective of Ginny in the books so watching Ron try to deal with the fact that Ginny was dating his worst enemy was really just wonderful and often hilarious.

The fic Why I’m Glad Ginny is Dating Draco Malfoy by Sarea Okelani is a classic example of this. Watching Ron try to deal with Ginny dating Draco, trying to break them up, and failing over and over was hilarious. I don’t want to give away too much but know that it is both a funny and sweet fic that will definitely brighten your day.

Be sure to check it out and let the author know what you think.
