Theatre Thursdays: Coriolanus (Again)

A while back we brought you the news that Tom Hiddleston was playing the title role in Shakespeare’s Coriolanus, and encouraged you to fly to London to see it (our argument, I believe, was something along the lines of “what argument do you need besides shirtless wet Hiddleston”). I have not flown to London in that interval, sadly, but I did seize on the next best—and significantly cheaper—option: seeing a screening of the production at a local movie theater.

Before I go into any depth on the show, let me just say this: If there is a theater in your area showing this as a movie, get ye hence and check it out. It was amazing.

Sherlock: “The Empty Hearse” Review

I’ve just finished watching “The Empty Hearse”, and, well, it’s a very strange feeling. Finally having Sherlock Series 3 is surreal. I was actually not really looking forward to watching it; I have become exhausted over the past year by the depth of my dislike for the majority of the cast, fandom, and writing team, and I tuned in more out of duty to this blog than a genuine desire to see more of Sherlock and John et al.

Given my apathy, I am surprised to report that I enjoyed the episode. I’m not sure if it was a case of having such low expectations that I couldn’t possibly be disappointed, or whether it was actually good, but, well, there you go.

In Brightest Day: Sherlock Holmes

Anyone familiar with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes series knows something is up with the lovable British detective. However, for the purpose of this character study, I think it’s best if I delve into a specific incarnation of Holmes. I’m going with Benedict Cumberbatch’s version of Holmes, as seen in the BBC drama Sherlock.
